Great and Longtime Friend of Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Founder of The 2nd Amendment: Nothing short of amazing, James Madison was a man who studied other failed governments and knew we need the right to protect ourselves at all costs. He saw how many great empires had failed because their Government had took power over them, and they had no way of becoming free. This is why he created the Second Amendment. It reads as follows.
” A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, being the best security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; but no person religiously scrupulous shall be compelled to bear arms.”. In late August 1789, the House debated and modified the Second Amendment. James Madison did many great things as president, and as a founding father but the greatest accomplishment he had was making the Second Amendment .
"A bill of rights is what the people are entitled to against every government on earth, general or particular; and what no just government should refuse, or rest on inferences." --Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, 1787. ME 6:388, Papers 12:440
"I have sworn upon the altar of god, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man."
(Jefferson discussing the fight over the establishment of one form of Christianity in the U.S. to Dr. Benjamin Rush, September 23, 1800. Peterson, Merrill, ed. Jefferson: Writings. New York: Literary Classics of the U.S.: Distributed to the trade in the U.S. and Canada by the Viking Press, c1984, p. 1082.)
