Service History:
Following the conclusion of the Dominion War, the Cardassian government was in disarray. A number of Cardassian warships fell into the hands of rebel groups such as the True Way, would be warlords seeking to carve out their own empires, and pirates looking to make a name for themselves. Starfleet took possession of what was left of the Cardassian fleet and impounded the ships until a more stable government could be established. A few of those vessels were surrendered to the victorious allied powers for study and evaluation, but the rest were disarmed and placed into a mothball fleet.
The Detapa Council reestablished the new Cardassian Union government, and it would not be long before it became apparent that Starfleet would not be able to meet the security needs of the Cardassian people. The Detapa Council petitioned Starfleet for the return of their ships, and after a vote by the Federation Council, the Cardassian battle fleet was returned to the Detapa Council to begin building a new Cardassian Self Defense Force. The Galor and Keldon classes of cruisers formed the backbone of this new force while Cardassian scientists and engineers worked to create more modern designs.
The Keldon class was still relatively new in the Cardassian fleet, so Cardassian engineers with the help of Starfleet would use that platform to inform future designs. Those ships would test and evaluate much of the technology that would go into the Damar, Detapa, and Ghemor classes of ship and to form the bases for upgrade programs that would allow the Keldons and older Galors to continue serving as the backbone of the Cardassian fleet.
In 2409 the Detapa Council signed an agreement with the Federation which allowed Cardassian officers the opportunity to participate in an officer exchange program with Starfleet. This program would allow those officers to gain valuable knowledge and experience they could use to help improve the Cardassian Self Defense Force. Science officer, Saris Mindall would be one of the first to sign up for this program and would attend an abbreviated course of instruction at Starfleet Academy before being assigned to a Federation starship. Saris proved quickly proved her worth, and upon reaching the rank of Captain, she would be awarded command on the Keldon class CUV Trager II.
Trager II was named in honor of the Trager, a Galor class cruiser that served with Damar's Cardassian Liberation Front against the Dominion. Trager distinguished herself when she destroyed a Dominion cloning facility in Cardassian territory. This act severely hampered the Dominion's ability to replace combat losses suffered at the hands of the Federation and her allies, and helped to turn the tide against the Dominion.
Captain Mindall specializes in electronic warfare and deception tactics to give her an edge in combat, and Trager II is well suited for this task. Captain Mindall uses Trager II's electronic warfare suites to confuse and blind her enemies before unleashing a lethal barrage from her spiral wave disruptors and photon torpedo launchers making her in important asset to have in any battle fleet.
The conflict with the Tzenkethi and the Hurq invasion showed the Cardassians that they could no longer sit on the sidelines while the rest of the Alpha and Beta Quadrant powers did the fighting, so they joined the Alliance with the Federation, the Klingon Empire, and the Romulan Republic arriving in the nick of time during the Battle of Bajor. Trager II would be at the center of this fleet, and her electronic warfare capabilities would help turn the tide against the attacking Hurq forces and saving Bajor and Deep Space Nine from destruction.
Trager II served honorably throughout this campaign, and would go on to serve alongside her Starfleet allies to defeat the invasion by the Terran Empire, fight the forces of J'mpok during the Klingon Civil War, and defend the galaxy from the Aetherians, Mirror Borg, and the Chimerans. As the Federation considers the Borg Collective's offer of alliance against the Aetherians, Trager II is sure to be on the front lines lending her electronic warfare talents against the enemy.
