More Star Trek fan fiction

This is one of my favorites in the list of characters I've written. The game's timeline includes the destruction of Romulus from the 2009 Star Trek movie but it does not take place in the JJ Trek universe. At a later point in the game's continuing evolution, the developers decided to add a Romulan faction, but one where you had to align with one of the two main factions. In the game's story line, Romulans who wanted to break away from the Romulan Star Empire found a new homeworld they named New Romulus and set up a new government, the Romulan Republic. There's a very frontier style to this new Romulan faction, and I thought it would be cool to have a Romulan gunslinger type of character. I ended up writing this one as kind of a cross between an old west gunslinger with a little Han Solo mixed in. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed writing him.

Name:  S'Tokkr Solius

DOB:  Stardate 45965.30 (Earth Calendar- 30 October 2379)

POB:  Xanitla, Imperial Romulan State

Service History:

Romulan Republic Navy- 2409-Present

Current Command:

RRW Mervutus, Dinaes Class Warbird Destroyer

Background:

S'Tokkr was born on the Romulan agricultural planet of Xanitla in 2379 to farmhands that worked for a larger landowner on the planet.  In the 2380s, the Xanitla fell under control of Dontra's Imperial Romulan State during the Romulan Civil War, and S'Tokkr's father was killed while defending Xanitla from Imperial Romulan Navy forces led by Tomalak leaving his mother to raise him alone.

The loss of his father was particularly hard on S'Tokkr, and he became withdrawn from his friends and family.  Having no siblings, S'Tokkr occupied himself with reading and watching old films, developing a particular affinity for novels and films set in Earth's "Old West" period.  He became fascinated with this time in Earth's history, and it would have a lasting effect on his personality.

After the destruction of Romulus and the disappearance of Donatra, the institutions that maintained order largely collapsed, and agricultural planets like Xanitla fell into disarray.  S'Tokkr and his mother found life to be particularly difficult, but they managed to eke out a living and purchased a small plot of farmland on Xanitla.  in 2399, S'Tokker's mother passed after battling a protracted illness.  This devastated S'Tokkr, but he resolved himself to continue his family's legacy, work on the land, and try to build a life.

In 2405, Xanitla was attacked by unknown forces that devastated huge parts of the planet's agricultural sector.  This damage resulted in a drought that made smaller farms like the one belonging to S'Tokkr untenable, and he was forced to sell his land for a fraction of what it had previously been worth.  He signed on with a freighter crew led by a Ferengi merchant ferrying cargo between the various systems in that sector.  Unbeknownst to S'Tokkr, the Ferengi merchant he worked for was operating a smuggling operation, and this would put him squarely in the sights of the Tal Shiar.

The ship was stopped while on a routine trading mission by a Tal Shiar warbird for inspection.  The Ferengi, knowing that his illicit cargo would be discovered, sent out a distress call and attempted to flee.  The Tal Shiar ship fired upon the freighter disabling it, but the damage also caused a containment failure that would result in a warp core breech.  Satisfied with their work, the Tal Shiar ship left the crew of the freighter to their fates and warped away.

The crew boarded the freighter's lifeboats and evacuated just before the warp core breech destroyed the ship.  Although they were safely aboard their lifeboats, being adrift in a remote sector of space meant that it would be some time before they were rescued, assuming their calls for help were not jammed by the Tal Shiar.  Fortunately, a Romulan Republic Warbird was nearby monitoring Tal Shiar and Imperial Romulan Naval activity and heard the distress call.  The crew of the freighter was rescued and S'Tokkr along with several other crew members were resettled by the Republic on the agricultural planet of Viranat.

Not long after arriving to Virinat, S'Tokkr would again find himself amid an attack by the same unknown forces that attacked Xanitla.  Later revealing themselves as the Elachi, the purpose of their attacks became known when S'Tokkr witnessed them abducting Romulan civilians.  S'Tokkr and several other survivors managed to locate a derelict T'Liss class warbird in orbit around Virinate and used a transporter to beam aboard.  After getting power restored to the ship, S'Tokkr took command and fought his way out of the system.

Naming the ship after his mother, Keruma, S'Tokkr would eventually contact the Romulan Republic who offered him a commission.  Realizing that the Romulan people need help defending themselves against aggressors like the Elachi and the Tal Shiar, he accepted and began his career as a tactical officer in the Romulan Republic Navy.  After the diplomatic conference on Khitomer between the Republic, the Federation, and the Klingon Empire, S'Tokkr chose to ally himself with the Federation.  He is now in command of the Dinaes Warbird Destroyer, RRW Mervutus where he lends his talents as a destroyer captain to defending the Republic and its allies.

Psychological Profile:

S'Tokkr has a unique personality.  He was exposed to old Earth literature and films as a child which heavily influenced his development and personality.  How he came to possess this material despite the Tal Shiar embargo on Federation cultural material remains a mystery.  He was particularly fascinated by Earth's "Old West" period and counts among his childhood heroes, men such as Wyatt Earp, Doc Holiday, Wild Bill, the Texas Rangers, and other "Old West" lawmen and anti-heroes depicted from that time.  As a result, he has developed a roguish personality that’s a mashup of an old west gun fighter, a frontier lawman, and a smuggler captain with a uniquely Romulan flair.

His style reflects his personality, and he is rarely seen without his long green coat and his pistol belt with dual sidearms.  He also carries an old Earth pump action shotgun.  S'Tokkr's tactics in combat further reflect his personality.  He prefers quick, nimble ships that can hit hard and fade away just as suddenly as they arrive rather than the big cruisers that can sit there and slug it out with each other.

S'Tokkr's personality is more introverted, and his command style reflects this aspect.  He does not like to talk much, so his orders and briefings are usually short and to the point.  He doesn't give rousing speeches and provide inspiring words, he just goes in and does what needs to be done, something his crew appreciates, although his personality and use of old Earth slang can sometimes leave them confused as to his expectations and intent.  In social settings he is often seen sitting alone, or occasionally with a select group of friends enjoying a drink, usually a glass of whiskey.  S'Tokkr seems to have no problem finding trouble, however, and according to his friends, he will never turn down a fight, a drink, or the attention of a beautiful woman. All three of those things have gotten him into trouble more than once.

RRW Mervutus

Dinaes Class Warbird Destroyer

Service History:

RRW Mervutus is a Dinaes class warbird destroyer. The Dinaes class is one of the first original designs to come out of the Romulan Republic. While the Republic does make use of larger ships like the D'Deridex and the Scimitar classes, those ships were either captured from the Romulan Star Empire or came into service with the Republic after their captains defected. Republic engineers, making use of limited resources began design and construction of a series of ships classified as warbird destroyers. These ships are capable of striking hard and fast and then escaping to safety under cloak before the enemy can mount a response. A popular tactic for warbird destroyer captains during fleet actions is to probe enemy defenses for weaknesses, and then utilizing their assault mode, exploit that weakness to open a gap in enemy formations that can be exploited by larger vessels.

Commissioned in 2410, RRW Mervutus is named in honor of her captain's father, Mervutus Solius, who died defending the agricultural planet of Xanitla from Romulan Senator Tomalak's forces during the Romulan Civil War. Mervutus, under Captain Solius, is essentially the embodiment of his gunslinger mentality, approaching enemy vessels under cloak before unleashing a lethal barrage from Mervutus' forward plasma cannons.

Mervutus is typically found patrolling New Romulus and Republic territory for incursions by the Tal Shiar or the Elachi, but she has also been known to join fleet actions with Alliance forces against enemies such as the Iconians, the Hurq, the Terran Empire, the Tzenkethi, and the Borg. She brings a vital capability to the table, and is likely to be a part of any future battle plans involving the Republic and her allies.
